The Reina Sofía Museum has an important collection of 20th century and contemporary art.
It opened in 1992 in the former Madrid General Hospital, a neoclassical building near the Atocha train station. Its permanent collection includes works by 20th century Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró, among others.
The Reina Sofía completes the Golden Triangle of Art in Madrid along with the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza.
